• The unilateral abducens nerve palsy is the most common of the isolated ocular motor nerve palsies.
• Focal neurological deficits may also occur, such as abducens nerve palsy and vertical gaze palsy ( Parinaud syndrome due to compression of the quadrigeminal plate, where the neural centers coordinating the conjugated vertical eye movement are located ).
• Abducens nerve palsy is also known to occur with halo orthosis placement . The resultant palsy is identified through loss of lateral gaze after application of the orthosis and is the most common cranial nerve injury associated with this device.
